I'm curious to know how many of my watchers or passer-by visitors actually know how to care for their pet(s). I've recently come to realize that not everyone knows how to properly care for their pet, or train them. Two major things come to mind. The first is knowing when a pet is unhealthy based on their attitude or weight. The second is training a pet to do what you want them to do or stopping bad habits.

The reason I started to think about this is because I'm watching "training" shows on television and it surprises me that these shows exist because a lot of what they're "teaching" seems to be common knowledge to me. So it's a realization that a fair share of people don't know how to properly care for or train their pets. I'm thinking to share information with watchers if it's something you guys take an interest in.

I know how to train and care for cats. Like, I know what kind of grooming they require, what food is good for them and how much they should have, and how to train them to stop scratching furniture, staying out of rooms you don't want them go in, and litter training. I have to say, not all of what goes into really maintaining a cat is common knowledge. I had to use trial and error for many years.

Now dogs... I have a difficult time with dogs. And freaking birds.

You betchya! Having a pet, especially a dog, is like having a child, and requires as much attention as one, too.

I'm better at caring for dogs, because I grew up with dogs. But I love cats and I know they need scratch posts of they'll go for your furniture. My parents didn't know that. They're just now getting their kitten enough toys and scratching mats to keep her from destroying their house. To me that's a common knowledge thing, but it really isn't. Was thinking it might be beneficial to deviants if there's a source for pet care/training. Maybe it's just me being on my pet care escapade. ;p

I grew up with dogs as well, but they were always outdoor dogs that didn't require specific grooming or food. All of them were mutts, but I love my doggy Spark (It seriously blows my mind that he's still alive. He's like... a 16 or 17 year old mutt and is still kicking and running around the house. We call him "Spark, the Immortal" )

My dad is currently breeding miniature weenie dogs. I don't really have a fondness towards dogs beneath my knee, so I let him do whatever is required to keep them happy~

I only got my most recent kitty to stop scratching up the furniture. I swear that scratch mats are gifts from another world. :XD:

And so far I'm the only who has voted "Somewhat". I guess everyone is 100% certain that they know what they're doing.

Well I went with the Somewhat options, because I believe everyone is likely to have issues with their pets either in one form or another. No matter how good you might know your pet, their diet and etc.... There are still disorders that the animal might have do to recessive genes from its parent that are active in it. I think part of owning a Pet is a learning experience. And with training dogs it really varies on what category they fall under which are 1. Sporting, 2. Working, 3. Herding, 4. Terrier, 5. Non-Sporting, 6. Hound, and 7. Toy. Each breed has its own specifics, its own obstacles that you must learn and understand to be able to train them. So with the People who chose the first option of absolutely they are either extremely lucky, or lying to themselves. hehe Im taking a dog obedience class atm also, along side with vet assistant, so i can get certification in them to better expand my knowledge of animals and their care.

Well I really don't know a lot about grooming.. I can give them a bath and dry them off, but never really got into grooming. My major concern is like basic health awareness. Like this stray I found some time ago was totally neglected. Now that owner is talking about selling him, but doesn't want to. So it's like, she's not aware that the dog is in bad shape in their house.

My cats have so many scratch pads and things, it's insanity if they scratch on anything else. We literally have one for every room in our house, in some rooms we have two and three. Feline's are much more independent so I don't really discipline them much, just give them what they need.
